PROPERTY TAX & WATER PAYMENT OPTIONS

Property Taxes
The Town of North Hero tax year runs from July 1st through June 30th. There are four (4) tax installments each year; August 20th, November 20th, February 20th and May 20th. Payments are considered on time if they are received by the due date. Postmarks are not accepted as timely payment. Payments may also be made at the Town Office during normal business hours or left in the drop box located in the entryway to the office.

All installments are subject to late fees of 1% per month. Any unpaid balance after the last due date is subject to interest and an 8% delinquent penalty fee. All past due payments are applied to the oldest balance and pro-rated across any outstanding principal, interest and penalty.

The Town of North Hero offers taxpayers an Online Pay Option. This payment option allows you to pay by credit card, debit card or eCheck. Discover, MasterCard and Visa are the cards accepted. In order to offer an alternative payment option without affecting property taxes, all credit/debit card transactions are subject to a 3% processing fee. eCheck transactions are $1.50. The transaction fee go to the company which processes the credit/debit card and eCheck transactions.

A word of caution - to avoid a late payment charge, any eCheck payment should be given an extra 7-10 days processing time. If the tax payment is due on the 20th, the eCheck should be initiated by the 10th of that month. The Town of North Hero cannot guarantee the length of time it takes for the bank to process your eCheck. Postmarks do not apply to electronic checks. Of course, checks or cash are always welcome!
